I act as head of the research and statistics unit at IVASS, the Italian authority supervising insurance markets.
We mix up economics, econometrics and actuarial methods to evaluate insurance markets’ functioning and provide evidence-based policy advise. We also provide a wide array of statistics on insurance markets in Italy.
My own research focuses on moral hazard, insurance telematics and competition in the auto insurance market. My research agenda is based on IPER, a (Big) micro data project, containing rich information on auto insurance contracts. I coordinate IPER since 2013. I strongly support an active role of economists in data collection, organization and dissemination: data is not a commodity!
